hai mafu

Overview

hai mafu is a guided ceramics course led by Grace Dlabik. Across two days, we will explore the deep somatic connection between clay and body.

Drawn from Grace’s cultural and deep ancestral knowledge, hai mafu is an exploration of the senses and offers guided orienteering of embodiment ~ encouraging intuitive form to establish a cyclical relationship with clay, hands, breath and body; deepening our understanding of concepts of embodiment that as a relational experience of reciprocity which flows in a multitude of directions.

Over the course, we will cultivate restorative and in-relationship participation, strengthening and deepening our interconnection with self, one another, nature and the joy of creative embodiment.

hai mafu is open to all, regardless of skill level or experience.

Course structure

hai mafu takes place across 2 days, with the 2nd session taking place approximately 5-6 weeks after the 1st ~ this is to allow for the clay to dry and be bisque fired.

The first day will consist of a making session, which will include an introduction to intuitive form making, along with a series of guided ways to deepen your relationship between the clay and your body.

The second day is for firing and celebration, where the group will prepare the tora uta, which is the traditional Papuan hole in the ground in which we will fire our pieces in,  bless the fire and then place our pieces in to complete the firing process. The group will then enjoy kaikai (nourishment through food and gathering in celebration of our creations and this experience) together.
